The Never ending story…

Well as luck has it, the lack of it rather, my printer is down and out for the count AGAIN! I printed all of two prints and six note cards once I had picked up the printer from Henry’s Oshawa after the print head was replaced by Canon. That’s when it started to act up again.

I was ready to do a printing job when the printer wouldn’t do anything. The warning light started flashing. An error code then popped up on my screen saying there was a problem with the printer mechanism. After calling Henry’s on Sunday to talk with a sales representative about the issue he thought that maybe the waste ink was full. He told me to call Canon technical support to make sure.

I waited to call Canon till today as I had ink on order. I replaced the empty tanks then tried to print again. Nothing. I called Canon and waited for the tech to come on. After a brief description of the problem he tells me that it’s possibly the purge unit. That’s a pump like mechanism that pumps ink out of the tanks when the printer is first fired up. He thinks it’s not operating properly. That must be the weird noise I hear when I start the printer.

I called Henry’s back to see if I am eligible for their extended warranty replacement. I am. The sales rep tells me that they don’t have the printer in stock, which is fine because I am not getting a new Canon printer. I am going to go for the Epson Stylus Photo R2880. It uses one ink tank less than the PIXMA Pro 9500 and uses the Epson UltraChrome K3 with Vivid Magenta pigment inkset. I certainly hope that I have better luck with this printer. Wish me luck.
